Igbo traditional leaders in the Southeast have pledged to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at least 70% of the vote in the 2027 general elections.

The monarchs, led by His Royal Majesty Eze Nnamdi Oforegbu of Abia State, made the pledge over the weekend during a courtesy call to Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, in Umuahia, Abia State, under the sponsorship of the Ndi Igbo Progressive Traditional Rulers Council.

Eze Oforegbu, speaking on behalf of the group, said they were there to express their gratitude to President Tinubu for the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), which they believe will speed up the development of the region's infrastructure. The monarchs also commended Kalu's legislative accomplishments, particularly his support of the bill that established the SEDC. They gave him royal blessings and prayed for his continued political growth.

Oforegbu responded, "We are here to thank you. You're doing more than we expected. We've never seen this kind of good work before." "We are grateful to President Bola Tinubu for appointing our sons and brothers as the pioneer heads of the SEDC. As you promoted our brothers, God will also raise you above your imagination." "We assure the president of at least 70 percent of our votes in the next election. We see all you're doing, and we're fully behind you." Deputy Speaker Kalu thanked the traditional rulers for their support and reiterated his conviction that President Tinubu's inclusive leadership and strategic appointments merit the Southeast's allegiance.

Kalu also called on the monarchs to successfully mobilize the electorate, emphasizing that votes ought to be seen as an investment in the future rather than as missed chances. "The President both exemplifies and rewards loyalty. Even after ten years, he will remember and thank you if you give him a cup of water, Kalu stated. President Tinubu gave us the Deputy Speakership, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Minister of Works—important positions crucial to the development of the country—when the Southeast had no notable leadership positions before him. He also assured the traditional rulers that the National Assembly is working to give them a constitutional role, acknowledging their importance in fostering national unity, peace, and security.

"The harmony and unity of our rural communities are greatly enhanced by traditional leaders. Since the president values traditional institutions, we are committed to formally recognizing your contributions to the constitution," Kalu added.
