The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) reports that three more Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana have been rescued and sent back to their country.

In a press release signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of the Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, the commission said Friday that the three girls, Divine, Favour, and Bright, were between the ages of 17 and 19 and that their aunts had deceived them into prostitution by promising them high-paying jobs in Ghana.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) received the girls after they were met by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, at the NiDCOM office in Lagos on Thursday. He took issue with the continued lack of discussion about traffickers.
She commended Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, NIDO Ghana, for consistently working with Ghanaian security agencies to rescue victims; the Nigerian Embassy in Ghana for providing strong consular support; and First Lady Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu for arranging the girls' return to Nigeria.

Until we begin to identify and expose those involved in this modern form of slavery, human trafficking will continue, she said. According to the document, more than 169 Nigerians have been deported from Ghana in recent months, suggesting that the trafficking network is still active. NAPTIP is currently holding the girls, who are from the states of Ebonyi and Bayelsa, for the purposes of profiling and rehabilitation.

In conclusion, the rescue of Divine, Favour, and Bright is a positive step, but much more needs to be done. Authorities must continue to investigate trafficking syndicates and strengthen protective measures for vulnerable youth. Community awareness and education remain crucial tools in the fight against human trafficking.

If you suspect any human trafficking activity, contact NAPTIP immediately or report anonymously through their official channels.
