Wike Reveals Tinubu Saved Fubara From Removal |
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has made a daring admission regarding the current political turmoil in Rivers State. In an open interview with the media on Friday in Abuja, Wike acknowledged that he had actively advocated for the removal of Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, a move that he claims was only stopped by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike stated plainly, "I won't pretend — I wanted Governor Fubara out." "However, the president took charge and decided to declare a state of emergency instead."
On March 18, 2025, President Tinubu proclaimed a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the legislature as a whole. In order to manage the state's affairs during the crisis, he also named Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) as an acting administrator.
Wike acknowledged that the emergency declaration effectively prevented Fubara from total political collapse, despite his displeasure with it.
"I wasn't happy with the state of emergency as a politician," he stated. In actuality, though, that's what kept him alive. He had already left. He had nothing to stand on politically.

Wike took a jab at Fubara's camp, saying they should be thankful for President Tinubu rather than criticizing him.
"They ought to go thank the president every morning. He joked that they ought to ask, "Can we wash your feet for saving us?"
Wike claimed to be open to reconciliation despite his firm stance, but he holds Fubara's advisors responsible for impeding peace initiatives.
He declared, "I'm prepared for peace negotiations." "But he keeps getting pushed away from that path by those around him."
This revelation adds yet another twist to a story that has captured the attention of the country's political scene as the Rivers State crisis continues to develop.
