A Greek court has imposed a 15-month suspended jail term on Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire in the long-running Mykonos case that dates back to 2020.
The ruling follows a retrial over an incident that took place during a summer holiday on the island of Mykonos nearly six years ago.
Maguire, 33, was found guilty of offenses including minor assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery after an altercation outside a bar. He has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and is expected to challenge the latest decision through the courts.
The defender plays for Manchester United and has been a regular for the England national football team over the past decade.
Harry Maguire Mykonos case retrial ends with suspended sentence
The Harry Maguire Mykonos case began in August 2020 when he, his brother, and a friend were arrested following a confrontation with police.
Reports at the time said tensions rose after claims that Maguire’s sister may have been approached by strangers and possibly targeted with a spiked injection. The situation escalated into a dispute that led to police intervention and subsequent charges.
In the first trial shortly after the arrest, Maguire received a 21-month suspended sentence. That verdict was later quashed on appeal, which meant the case had to be heard again.
The retrial faced several postponements over the years before proceeding this week. Maguire did not attend the latest hearing in person.
Under Greek law, a suspended sentence does not result in immediate imprisonment unless further offenses occur during a specified period. His legal representatives are preparing to file another appeal in a bid to overturn the conviction.
The case previously affected his international career. Following the initial conviction, then England manager Gareth Southgate left Maguire out of the national squad as legal proceedings continued.

The latest Harry Maguire Mykonos case ruling matters today because it closes one chapter of a dispute that has followed the defender throughout his prime playing years. With another appeal expected, the outcome could continue to shape public perception and his standing at the club and international level in the months ahead.
