LeBron James set a new NBA appearance record on Saturday night, featuring in his 1,612th regular-season game as the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Orlando Magic 105-104 in a dramatic finish.

The 41-year-old moved past Robert Parish, whose long-standing record of 1,611 games had stood since 1997. The milestone adds to an already extensive list of career achievements for James, now in his 23rd NBA season.

The game itself nearly ended in disappointment for the Lakers. Orlando led by two points with only seconds left, putting the home side on the brink of defeat.

That changed in the final moment when Luke Kennard hit a late three-pointer, sealing a one-point win and extending the Lakers’ winning run to nine games. The result pushes the team to 46-25, strengthening their position near the top of the Western Conference standings.

James recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the game. Luka Dončić led all scorers for the Lakers with 33 points but received his 16th technical foul of the season, which brings an automatic suspension for the team’s next fixture against the Detroit Pistons.

LeBron James's appearance record highlights durability

The LeBron James appearance record reflects more than two decades of consistency at the highest level of basketball. Few players have maintained such longevity in a physically demanding league, and James has continued to play a central role for his teams deep into his career.

Speaking after the game, James said he approached the record-breaking night like any other.
He said being available for teammates has always been a priority throughout his career, describing the record as something he only reflected on after stepping onto the court.
James already holds several major NBA records, including all-time points scored and longest streak of games with at least 10 points. When playoff games are included, his career total rises to 1,904 appearances, placing him well ahead of other all-time greats such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
