JAMB Launches Emergency Support Centre for Candidates Amid UTME Rescheduling Challenges

JAMB support officials assisting UTME 2024 candidates at the emergency support centre in Abuja, Nigeria
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the introduction of a new initiative aimed at supporting candidates who are currently facing urgent examination-related challenges. The new initiative, called the Candidate Counselling Emergency Support Centre (CCESC), is designed to complement JAMB’s existing support structures and provide immediate assistance to candidates, especially in light of recent disruptions to the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) schedule.
The development was made public on Friday via JAMB’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, where the examination board emphasized that while the CCESC is now available, the ticketing platform remains the primary and most effective channel for communicating with the board.

What is the JAMB Candidate Counselling Emergency Support Centre (CCESC)?
Candidate Counselling Emergency Support Centre (CCESC) is a newly established support system set up by JAMB to offer immediate and emergency help to UTME candidates. It acts as a supplementary service to the main JAMB ticketing platform and is specifically tailored for urgent situations where candidates need direct and fast assistance.
This emergency center is not intended to replace the regular communication method but rather to function as an emergency hotline when time-sensitive issues arise, especially during ongoing examinations.

Contacting the Emergency Support Centre
JAMB
has made provisions for candidates and members of the public to reach designated officials through a dedicated emergency line: 0700-220-0016.

Some of the officials managing the CCESC include
Gbenga
Yusuf
Dubem
Tony
Ogbonna
Emma
These representatives are available to respond to urgent concerns ranging from exam venue mix-ups to login errors at CBT centers or technical glitches during the examination process.

Ticketing Platform Still Remains Primary Support System
Despite the launch of the emergency support center, JAMB has reiterated that its ticketing platform remains the most reliable and preferred method for resolving candidate issues.
In its official statement, the board said:
Please note that the ticketing platform is still the primary and most effective method for communicating with the Board as it is fast and easy to use and also guarantees a quick reply.”
Candidates are still encouraged to use the ticketing platform for general inquiries, complaints, and technical issues unless their problem is of an emergency nature that requires real-time attention.
You can access the ticketing platform on the JAMB official website.

Why JAMB Introduced the CCESC Now
The announcement comes on the heels of a significant rescheduling of the 2024 UTME, which has affected over 300,000 candidates across Nigeria. This large-scale disruption was caused by technical failures at several computer-based test (CBT) centers, leading to inaccurate score records and interrupted examinations.
JAMB responded swiftly by ordering a retake for all candidates affected by these glitches, beginning Friday. The introduction of the emergency support center is meant to ease the burden on both the candidates and the board during this period of high tension and uncertainty.

Candidates Express Concerns Over WAEC Timetable Clash
While the rescheduled UTME has commenced, several candidates and stakeholders have expressed worries about a possible timetable clash with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC).
WAEC,
which typically overlaps with JAMB’s examination period, has yet to adjust its official timetable, raising concerns for students who are preparing for both critical exams simultaneously. This potential overlap could cause additional stress and confusion for thousands of secondary school leavers.
Education advocates are calling on both JAMB and WAEC to coordinate examination schedules to avoid conflicts that could jeopardize students' performance or lead to missed papers.

Importance of the New Support System for Nigerian Students
With Nigeria’s education system increasingly moving towards digital platforms, technical issues during major exams have become a recurring concern. In response, JAMB's move to establish an emergency support structure is seen as a proactive and candidate-friendly gesture.
This support system not only reflects JAMB’s recognition of the challenges faced by students but also aligns with the broader goal of enhancing efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness within Nigeria's tertiary education admission process.

How to Effectively Use JAMB’s Support Services
Here’s how candidates can make the most out of both the ticketing platform and the new emergency support center:
For the ticketing platform:
Visit the official JAMB website.
Locate the “Support” or “Ticketing” section.
Create a ticket by filling in your details, registration number, and the issue you're facing.
Monitor the response via your email or the platform dashboard.
For the Emergency Support Center:
Only call the CCESC (0700-220-0016) if your issue is urgent and examination-related.
Clearly state your full name, registration number, exam date, center, and the problem you’re encountering.
Be polite and concise to help the officials assist you effectively.

The launch of the Candidate Counselling Emergency Support Centre marks an important step by JAMB in improving its response time and service delivery to Nigerian students. While the board continues to rely heavily on its digital ticketing system, the added layer of emergency support offers a lifeline to candidates facing real-time challenges during the 2024 UTME season.
As the rescheduled UTME progresses and concerns about overlapping exam dates persist, stakeholders, including schools, parents, and examination bodies, must work collaboratively to ensure that students are supported and that their academic aspirations are not derailed by administrative or technical setbacks.
Candidates are urged to stay calm, follow official communication channels, and seek assistance promptly through the appropriate support lines when necessary.
